Event dedicated to the 34th anniversary of the Independence of Armenia

On October 15, on the occasion of the Independence Day of the Republic of Armenia, the Embassy of Armenia in Cyprus hosted its first official reception since the establishment of the resident Embassy in Nicosia. The event was attended by the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth of Cyprus, the Permanent Secretary of the MFA of Cyprus, Members of the House of Representatives, religious leaders, Ambassadors, high-ranking officials from various government bodies of the Republic of Cyprus, members of the Armenian community, and distinguished guests.

In her address, Ambassador Torgomyan reflected on Armenia’s journey since regaining independence in 1991. Highlighting the recent initialling of the Peace Agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, she expressed optimism for a new era of peace, stability, and regional cooperation, in this context stressing the importance of the “Crossroads of Peace” project. Inna Torgomyan reaffirmed the strong and enduring friendship between Armenia and Cyprus, built on mutual respect, trust, and shared values. She expressed gratitude to Cyprus for its unwavering political and humanitarian support and noted the significance of the opening of resident Embassies in Yerevan and Nicosia as a milestone in bilateral relations.  Ambassador Torgomyan also extended congratulations to Cyprus on its upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union, conveying confidence in its leadership during challenging times.

In her remarks, Minister of Education, Sports and Youth Athena Michaelidou reiterated Cyprus’s unwavering support for the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia within its internationally recognized borders. She highlighted the deep-rooted friendship between Cyprus and Armenia, founded on shared values, mutual respect, and enduring historical ties, and noted the significance of the recent establishment of resident Diplomatic Missions in Nicosia and Yerevan. The Minister commended Armenia’s constructive efforts toward achieving a comprehensive and lasting peace in the South Caucasus and reaffirmed Cyprus commitment to supporting Armenia’s closer alignment with the European Union.
